Art school, culture and art's diffusion.

First Place public tender.

In partnership with Crisosto Smith Consultants.

5,000 m2 (built) + 7,000 m2 (courtyard).

La Union, Valdivia, 2012.

This project obtained the first place in a public tender commissioned by the Ministry of Public Works. The development of the school of culture and art's diffusion was lead by me in partnership with Crisosto Smith consultant. The public tender was worked up in a plot next to the downtown of La Union (city in the South of Chile). The design was conceived with the purpose to strengthen the identity, cultural and artistic character of the community, as reference, where art is part of life and participates in the formation of the society.

We began the design of this project with the basis that the school should contain a central courtyard sheltered for the student's recreation and also to host art events for the community. In order to achieve these qualities, we proposed a building by the perimeter in "C" shape, in two levels and closed by the volume of the gym. The central courtyard was projected with a special spaces to receive sculptures and devices to host exhibitions. The school facilities as the gym and auditorium were designed to be open to the community with special controls and circulations segregated from the normal school function, enabling to offer cultural events like concerts, exhibitions, competitions, conferences, seminars, etc during the evenings, weekends and holidays.
