Valdivia's Waterfront: Urban design competition.
With Diego Brugnoli, Jorge Dominguez, Andrea Gonzalez and Claudia Jimenez.
50,000 m2 (park and docks) + 2,000 m2 (equipment). Valdivia, 2012.

In 2012, the Valdivia's Municipality organized a public competition to revitalize the waterfront of the Calle Calle river's mouth, recently Valdivia had been named the regional capital. The growth projected in terms of touristic attraction, and also as a city with important university centres, had pushed further the urban possibilities of the city. Nonetheless, the river, the most important city attraction, was contaminated by the industrial settlements located upstream and the river's edge were deteriorated due to a lack of public investment.
We worked with three development axes: firstly, regenerate the damaged ecosystem by urban and industrial pollution and restore its biological processes; secondly reactivating the river as a means of urban transport; and finally, enhancing the river as the setting for public, cultural and sports activities. We design a bioswale parallel to the cycle path and the pedestrian walkways. We proposed as well, a public infrastructure to reactivate the activities by the river with restaurants and cafes, a floating area as transport link, an outdoor auditorium, breakwaters, bleachers and docks.
